I know some of you are going to go medieval on me for this price of a shoe at $150 but you know, some shoes which are seasonless and timeless (this looks like a hippie shoe from the 1970s — hello, 30 plus years ago) are worth the extra $$$. This is a groovy shoe and Steve Madden can be your one big purchase as clog-like shoes are the rage right now.

Steve Madden, $150

Buy your flat sandals for $10-15. You can wear them now with rompers and summer dresses and later for pre-fall with jeans and then add a pair of grey tights and you’re still going to look current. Clogs will be with us for a while because they work really well with denim — which doesn’t seem to be going out of style. And if you’re not nuts for denim with eveyrthing, a maxi dress could work here as well as a cute floral sundress.

- 1 inch platform

I really love Jessica Simpson when she’s casual and wears a high platform clog. These shoes are a replica of the satin and leather Miu Miu clog shoes which retail for $490. These Steve Madden clogs are pretty similar and come in at $150. I like the height — and for a short girl, I need it. I love the comfort factor too, the foot bed is nice and wide and comfy and you won’t know you’re traisping around in a 5 incher.

I love the way Jessica mixes the neutral suede color of the shoe with a blue toenail polish for those of you who always try different colors of blue like the Essie Lapis of Luxury blue or the Turquoise & caicos green. It looks really fresh.

Westward Bound

L.A.-based stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott are responsible for dressing some of Hollywood’s most on-the-rise stars—their client Emma Roberts in particular has been turning heads lately—but it’s really the notion of East meets West that has them busy these days.

“We were inspired by the notion of adventure and the idea of Kate Spade New York, an iconic East Coast brand, traveling westward,” Current said, referencing the unlikely compatibility of the pair’s whimsical, more casual Americana aesthetic (demonstrated in the Current/Elliott line they also design) with the New York mainstay’s playful yet ladylike charm. Hence the name of the capsule collection: Westward.

The duo’s West Coast girl isn’t a by-the-pool lounger, though. “We kept in mind the ideal shapes, sizes, and elements that suit a stylish, working girl,” Meritt echoed of the bags that range from oversized clutches with a hidden cross-body strap to their “2nd” bag, big enough to fit your laptop and a second pair of shoes. Working closely with Kate Spade’s creative director Deborah Lloyd, they conspired to provide the perfect antidote to the woman who never knows where her day will take her. Judging by the new ad campaign, debuting exclusively here, wherever she’s off to, she’ll be scaling new heights.

The collection launches this August at Kate Spade stores, Bloomingdale’s, and online. In celebration of the collaboration, Kate Spade New York has made a generous donation to the Phase One Foundation, an organization that supports cancer research and awareness. It’s a cause that’s sadly close to home: Elliott’s husband passed away nearly two years ago from brain cancer.

Golfers, Beware Franz Ferdinand

They’re fulfilling an acoustic set at Galleria Carla Sozzani tomorrow to companion Pringle of Scotland’s show, yet today Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand were hanging out in Pringle’s Milan showroom, talking almost art and sweaters. They’re surrounded the present-day Scottish artists who’ve devised a limited-edition piece of knitwear as part of the imaginative initiative Pringle has launched with the Serpentine Gallery in London to jot the company’s 195th commemoration. (The others include Tilda Swinton, Douglas Gordon, and Ryan McGinley, who are always part of the latest ad campaign.) McCarthy shrieked his sweater “Sign for Strength, Perseverance and Confidence.” He liked the motivational information, which he remembers from the sweater of a friend’s children sister while he was 15. He likewise liked the truth that Pringle could copy his penmanship so accurately in cashmere thread. Kapranos’ top is appointed “The Execution of the Perfect Swing.” Where the VI would normally be, the microscopic diagram of a golfer swings above a gallows. “Golf had a such a strong social significance when I was growing up in Glasgow,” he annotated. “It was the emblem of social climbing—and anything I ambitioned to riot against it.” Golfers love Pringle, yet Kapranos had been given carte blanche by the company, so he chose to look how distant he could take his boyhood antipathy. Anyway, at their Pringles shall ye justice the Ferdinands. “I suspect I’m assured,” said McCarthy. “And I must be the yang to his yin,” added Kapranos.
